Where do you draw inspiration from?
By work I mean two things. I get inspired by my acting class and my work with them. Acting classes in LA are super expensive and there have been weeks I’ve gone without groceries so that I can go. I know that sounds desperate but whenever I go, I feel like an actor, which is worth every penny. I love working with my friends to make scenes pop and flow. It really energizes me to keep hungry out here.
Also, my work at S Factor. I love turning my brain off and letting my body talk for 2 hours at time. Watching other women do the same and guiding them to body bliss is so rewarding. I love helping women stop their body shaming routines and habits and introducing them to a love and respect for their instrument.
When shit gets tough, I remind myself that I am ultimately living the dream. I pole dance. I act. I see friends. I pet cats and dogs. I kiss my boyfriend. I’m grateful.
What's been your favorite Con moment? Least favorite?
At LeakyCon 2012 in Chicago, I had the opportunity to get a drink at the hotel bar with some Starkid fans from England. It was so cool to talk to them in a non-fan related moment.
That is only tied with when I got to spend an extra day and night with the LC managers after the 2013 con was over in Portland. We had a little awards ceremony and I felt so loved. I really appreciate all the hard work they do!
My least favorite moment isn’t actually that bad. I had a sinus infection after the 2013 conference ended and JD and I drove to San Francisco from Oregon while I was sick. That wasn’t that fun.
Mumford and Sons, the Lumineers, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Arctic Monkeys, The Temptations, THE BEATLES.
When would you go if you had a time machine?
1940’s-1960’s. I’d like to meet my grandparents as they fell in love and I want to meet my parents in college.
Where did the "num nums" come from?
Nick Strauss. The first time we met.
Everyone in our BFA Acting class already knew each other through a FB group before actually meeting in person. So, when it came time to meet at orientation, he bounded up to me and said “Devdevnumnums! So good to meet you.”
And since then, Numnums or Nums has kind of stuck.
If you could change your name to anything what would it be?
I love the name Scarlet. Or Hazel.
Those are both colors, I know. But I like them. Someone once told me I look like a Summer. That would work too.
When I was little, I used to hate the name Devin. Now its sort of me, so I don’t judge.
I have a question for you, if you don't mind me asking. I'm curious, are you in any fandoms? For example, Supernatural, Sherlock, etc.?
How much time do you have?
I love Dr. Who and Harry Potter mostly. Oh, and Joss Whedon-dom. I’m afraid to dive into any more because I have the tendency to OBSESS over them and then I don’t have any free time to do necessary things like hygiene or food.
what's your favorite movie? :)
V for Vendetta. Hands down. Its theatrical, poetic, and captivating. Check it out!
